HOW TO BECOME A HOMEOWNER It's about families moving into their first decent, affordable home. "One house and one family at a time". Lubbock Habitat has over 99 families that are currently involved in our program. Homeowner families are chosen according to their need; their ability to pay the no-profit, no-interest mortgage; and their willingness to partner with Habitat. Homeowner families contribute 500 hours in volunteer labor to the building of their homes and make monthly mortgage payments to Lubbock Habitat. Their payments are placed in a revolving Fund for Humanity to build and rehabilitate more houses in Lubbock. Habitat houses are purchased by the homeowner families. Three factors make Habitat houses affordable to low-income people worldwide: - Houses are sold at no profit, with no interest charged on the mortgage.
- Homeowners and volunteers build the houses under trained supervision.
- Individuals, corporations, faith groups and others provide financial support.
