Volunteer Job Descriptions
House Leaders- Organize daily
work to meet goals by matching volunteers and leaders by task. Read and
instruct projects according to blueprints. Conduct on-site safety training.
Oversee quality of workmanship.
Crew Chiefs- Describe structure and function of building system:
foundation, floor, walls and roof. Read, interpret and explain building
plans. Explain the meaning and importance of square, plumb and level.
Describe structure and function of windows, doors, drywall, siding, trim,
paint and cabinets. Identify defects and imperfections in building materials
and quality of work.
Volunteers - Construction- Have some knowledge of simple tools and
their proper use. Able to identify common fasteners and building materials
Volunteer Host- Register volunteers, answer questions, and schedule
future work days.
Volunteers - Misc.- Assist with moving supplies and materials.
Oversee jobsite for safety. Doing basic yard work, cleaning, and tool
inventory. Food preparation and clean up. Tracking and inventory of tools
and supplies. Registering volunteers, passing out T-shirts, and assignments.
House Leaders and Crew Chiefs are required to commit to attending at least
three training sessions prior to the Blitz Build (Sept 10-Oct1) and to be
available for the full week of the build. Responsibilities may be split
between 2 or 3 persons with an overlapping schedule worked out prior to the
Blitz. Training Classes will be held on dates to be announced. You must
complete the classes at least once in order to qualify for these positions.
